The world’s first Electric Contra Rotating Propeller air racer has been exhibited at the 2019 Dubai Air Show.

Contra Electric teamed up with Condor Aviation Limited to fast track the conversion of single seat CASSUTT race plane on behalf of the new electric aircraft racing formula “AIR RACE E” and AIRBUS. 

This involved removing the existing 100hp piston engine, single propeller and forward of the firewall components and installing Contra Electric’s “CRPS 225” twin motor/propeller contra rotating propulsion system.

A new engine mounting frame was fabricated to house the electric motors, inverters and cooling systems and a new nose cowling designed and built to enhance aerodynamic stability and streamlining. 

The 150hp (limited) CRPS system was fitted with twin CR fixed pitch racing propellers and is expected to give the aircraft a top speed of 250mph.
